Illustrated dust jacket with original $6.95 price; book in brown faux-marbled boards with gilt lettering to spine. Jacket heavily worn along edges and chipped at spine ends, with a clean 1.5" tear tracing upwards from bottom of spine and some toning along edges. Boards show some very small chips at top of spine and corners. Sturdy in binding with a slight lean to spine. Some light spotting to text block, but interior is unmarked.

Synopsis

The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman is a 1971 novel by Ernest J. Gaines. The book was made into an award-winning television movie in 1973. The film holds importance as one of the first films to deal with African-American characters with depth and sympathy. It preceded the ground-breaking television miniseries Roots by four years. The story depicts the struggles of African Americans as seen through the eyes of the narrator, a woman named Jane Pittman.
