ca. 1930s. Hardcover. Very Good. 16 x 20 cm. [138 p.]. Green cloth boards with gold lettering. All edges gilt. Front board has a "wave" to it. Front free endpaper missing. First page inscribed "Furzedown School 1932."
Autographed by Stanley Spencer, a painter of imaginative and religious subjects, landscapes and occasional portraits, many of them set in and around Cookham, Berkshire. Spencer's autograph appears on p. 7, dated August 16th, 1935. The book also has 2 watercolours (one of a cute terrier) and 1 sketch. Not by Spencer but both well done. Book belonged to "Joan" and was a birthday present from her "Snowball" grandparents, St. Leonards on Sea, in 1932.
