Annotated in pencil, Oenshurst, February 1867. 3 pp. 6 x 4 inches, two names inked over, in very good condition, embossed letterhead showing the famous steam hammer. A good letter by James Nasmyth (1808-90), engineer, inventor of the steam hammer. “It has however been a ruke with me to cultivate as far as I can able and worthy tho’ friendly intercourse of all able men as private friends but not to join associations, as such; for this reason I am not an F.R.S. or member of the Institute of C.E. or mechanical E., but continue to pursue my favourite subjects by my self ...”
