Fine. - Letter penned in black ink on 3 sides of a sheet of his cream letterhead, folded once to form 4 sides, each 6-1/4 inches high by 4 inches wide, with his address printed at the top of the first side. Signed "William B. Howland". There is a tiny chip to the edge of he 1st & 4th sides. Fine.

Howland writes to lecture manager Major Pond, praising Pond's book "Eccentricities of Genius" [published 1900]. "I'm going to read it through again. It reads well either end first. No man living has known intimately so many men and women who are interesting to me, and no man living could have written about them so frankly, cordially, intimately, and interestingly. Thank you for the book. I must have your name in it -- and in a letter. Write me one, to paste in the front thereof".

William Bailey Hutchinson [1849-1917] was the editor of The Outlook, and President of the Independent Corporation, publisher of The Independent and The Countryside Magazine. He was a member of the British-American Peace Centenary Committee.
