Karlsruhe, 1886. unbound. very good. Extremely rare A.L.S. "H. Hertz", 8vo. 4 pages, Karlsruhe, May 12th 1886, in German but reasonably translated, to Dear Friends: on his up-coming marriage to Elisabeth Doll, daughter of Dr. Max Doll, in part: "...I hesitated some time before I answered your friendly letter on the occasion of my engagement, because I hoped I would again have enough leisure to discuss the scientific aspects of the same, but now so many things are covered that I rather settle the purely human matters first, saving the remainder for later time. You know yourself that the engagement business is not a matter of pure rationale, and that strong will alone will not get you a housekeeper, but not a wife... and to renounce the latter I was still too young. So the thing had to run its course: Thank God, that it has all turned out well. We plan to have our wedding at the beginning of August... and our days are so busy that we probably won't have any peace until after it. This I must still limit my work during this semester to instruction only... but that would certainly be so without the engagement due to the hot and muggy summer, which I am so completely unaccustomed to. I am only capable of doing half the work. Since you do not mention your health, and since a cheerful tone prevails in your letter, I hope you are completely well in this regard. Hopefully we will meet once again, but the where and when is not of course hard to determine..." Fine condition. *Intimate letters regarding personal events in the life of Heinrich Hertz are exceedingly rare due to his untimely death at age thirty-six.

German physicist who first conclusively proved the existence of electromagnetic waves as theorized by James Clerk Maxwell.
