About This Item

Edinburgh Institution, 17 March 1882. 1½ pages 7 x 4½ inches, fine. Robert McNair Ferguson (1829-1912), scientist, scholar and headmaster, was a founder member of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society and became their fifth President. “It is interesting in that it is the first instance of two bobbins being wrapped round the same armature and of offering the best effect of shunt Dynamos in a quite peculiar way.” The postscript refers to a court case, and concludes: “I hope your English actions will secure the Microphone for the public.”
