10 November 1875. 1 page 7 x 4½ inches, minor blemishes only. John MacGregor (1825 – 1892), nicknamed Rob Roy after a renowned relative, was a Scottish explorer, travel writer and philanthropist. He is generally credited with the development of the first sailing canoes and with popularising canoeing as a sport in Europe and the United States. He founded the British Royal Canoe Club (RCC) in 1866 becoming its first Captain. “I enclose my Carte representing me in my little yawl Rob Roy (not the canoe), in which I sailed 1500 miles, entirely alone; crossing the Channel twice, once by the long passage of 100 miles from Havre to England.”
