Washington: James B. Steedman, Printer, 1858. Volume I only. Near Very Good condition (see photos). A square, reasonably tight copy. Inner hinges are perfectly sound. Wear to the corners and spine ends, with one small chip at the rear hinge (see photo). Bound in the original brown cloth, with decorative blind stamping to the spine and boards, both front and rear. The spine is gilt-stamped "Message and Documents 1858-9, Part 1." Below the spine is blind-stamped "House Document." NOT a library discard. Previous owner's name on endpaper. NO underlining. NO margin notes. A small percentage of pages are age-toned or show light foxing. However the vast majority are clean with NO foxing. The rare trade paper edition of this pseudonymous 1959 novel (usually encountered in a smaller format), which has been plausibly attributed to far-right scholar Revilo P. Oliver (who was an important figure in the John Birch Society when this was published). It was definitely the epistolary model on which The Turner Diaries by William Pierce was based, and thus provides an important link between the Eisenhower-era Right and its more militant successors (Oliver split from the Birch Society in 1966 and went on to be closely associated with the National Alliance). This was a publication of far-right publisher Lyle H. Munson. Owner name to front free endpaper (no other markings); else unmarked with some cover soil/toning, spine tilt, reading wear and a few minor interior stains.

Rare hardcover 1st edition. Cover has some wear and water marks on the edge. Some shelf wear & corners bumped. Some light tanning. Nice, tight binding. Good for its age. Fictional story of Wannaseska, the Cherokee prophet set during the time the State of Georgia (white settlers) were about to confiscate Cherokee Lands in N. Georgia. The prophet is first hand eye witness and victim to the outrages. Story ends with the Trail, of Tears when the Cherokees agreed to move to Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

The binding shows heavy wear as well as some soiling and pest damage. A reinforced paper spine is all but perished. Outer wrappers show some foxing. The text block is delicate and may easily separate, however the text is largely unopened. Extensive damping at the lower quarter of the binding, affecting the text. This is heavier at the front where it affects the bottom 3/4 of the fore edge to over half of the bottom edge and retreats the further one goes though the text. Contains two large foldout tables at the rear. Housed in a board backed plastic sleeve. Text is in French. A rough translation of the title is, "Notice on the Current Financial Position of the States of North America, Accompanied by some details on the Debts of the Principal European States."
