Translated from the Dutch by Stacey Knecht. A novel that is a saga of a Jewish family as it wanders from Poland to Holland to the United States. It begins when an uncle and niece become snowbound in a mountain house. The uncle passes the time telling her the family story. It begins with one young man walking from Poland to Holland in 1648 where the following generatiions became intinerant clockmakers. The story continues on through the uncle's parents time in turn-of-the-century Rotterdam and tehn the family's role in the Manhattan Project. Acknowledgments, 417p.. Trade Paperback.
