Paris: Cailleau. Good with no dust jacket. 1765. Hardcover. xxiv, 329, [vii]; 350, [viii]; 328, [vii] pp. Original diced calf, spines nicely ornamented with gilt. Black spine labels are a bit worn, numbered labels are missing, boards and joints with minor wear, some chipping at the bottom of spine. Interior marbled end papers with book plates of William Haggerston Constable, text in French, text is clean and unmarked, silk page markers still present, a lovely set in original condition. A picaresque novel by the author of Gil Blas, also set in Salamanca. "In 1756 William Haggerston Constable commissioned John Carr of York to build Everingham Park on the site of the Elizabethan house of the Constables. He also united the families of Constables. He also united the families of Constable and Maxwell by marrying Lady Winifred Maxwell and their heirs became the Constable Maxwell family of Everingham with estates in Scotland belonging to the earls of Nithsdale and barons Herries."; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall .
