1908 BEAUTIFUL 1ed Princes & Princesses Haakon Norway Napoleon Valois Lang
Andrew Lang was a late 19th-century children's book author who is best known for his colored 'fairy books'. He and his wife recognized that fairy stories were immensely popular amongst young readers. According to the preface of "Princes and Princesses", Mrs. Lang says,
"There are some children who [say] that stories about fairies are true, and that they like fairies; and that they do not like true stories about real people who lived long ago."
The Lang's decided to publish a collection of true stories that would fascinate children – children who would primarily want to read exciting fictional stories. Notable stories found in this book include those of the lives of:
· Napoleon Bonaparte
· Haakon III of Norway, grandson of King Sverre
· Jeanne d'Albert, Queen of Navarre
· Henrietta of England, daughter of Charles I
· Marie Louise d'Orleans, niece of Louis XIV
· Isabella of Valois and princess of France, married Richard… Read More

Description:
1882 King Louis XII of France Anne of Brittany Color Illustrated French BINDING

Paul Lacroix was a 19th-century French author whose books covered a broad set of topics, including some controversial. Lacroix wrote about ballets, costumes, romance, masquerades, heraldry, religion in the military, and the history of prostitution. One of his best books was "Louis XII et Anne de Bretagne", a history of early 16th-century France and the reuniting of Brittany and France.
While the contents of this and other Lacroix works are fascinating, it is the exquisite binding and color illustrations that make this book so desirable. It contains more than 200 illustrations in addition to the 14 chromolithograph engravings!

1889 Civil War Secret Service Wilkes Booth Lincoln Assassination Baker Military

A beautiful, decorative first edition of the history of "The United States Secret Service." This book, by General La Fayette Baker, deals with the interactions in the American government as well as Baker's views on the role slavery played in the Civil War. Other important events discussed include Wilson's Raid, Abraham Lincoln speeches, organization of the First District Cavalry, role of women in the Civil War and more.

The most interesting chapter, however, is the chapter on famous assassinations throughout history including:
• Eglon, King of Moab
• Julius Caesar
• James I of England
• Marat, the French Revolution leader
• Alexander of Russia
• Abraham Lincoln

The portion on Abraham Lincoln features an engraving of John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln's assassin, being killed in a tobacco barn by Richard Garrett. Other engravings relating to Booth include him crossing the Potomac and his secret burial. This book… Read More
