This 2-volume set includes both works 'The Bachelor of Salamanca' and 'The History of Vanillo Gonzales' by Alain Rene Le Sage. Le Sage began his career with a translation from the Greek, but became famous from his comic operas and his novels including 'Gil Blas,' and 'Devil on Crutches.' These two volumes consist of his translation of the Spanish novel 'The Bachelor of Salamanca' and his last written work 'The History of Vanillo Gonzales,' which resembles 'Gil Blas' in tone frequently utilizing fraud, debauchery, and rogues for entertainment.

These 1881 editions include 4 original etchings by R. de Los Rios are numbered 27 out of only 100 copies sold.
