Description of the discoveries of the Afghan-Soviet Archaeological Expedition in 1978-1979 in ancient burial sites near the town of Shibargan in Northern Afghanistan. The finds included some 20,000 gold objects. 258pp with 166 colour plates and 260 black and white photographs. Gilt ibex design to top board, gilt lettering to spine, dark brown endpapers, two ribbon page markers. Tiny indentation to top corner, otherwise fine copy in near fine unclipped dustwrapper, all enclosed in slightly marked grey card slipcase. VERY HEAVY BOOK, weighing 2.6kg. Illustrated with 166 colour plates of the objects excavated - many full page. Catalogue to the rear of the book with numerous b/w photogaphs of the objects with supportive text. Several photographs of the actual excavation. Gilt embossed lettering to the spine and gilt embossed vignette to the front board. Light bumps to one corner and to the head of the wrapper. No inscriptions. Fresh and clean. Dust wrapper has a little creasing to the head of the wrapper and to the head of the inner flyleafs. Comes in original cardboard slipcase. A well preserved copy.
