This copy is signed, with a lengthy note from the author (the note is not personalized). The illustrations by Hattie Longstreet include a color frontis with tissue guard, chapter headpieces drawings and tailpiece decorations. Also includes fifteen black and white photo plates. Originally published in 1916, this is a later printing from 1923. Author Esther Birdsall Darling helped to found the Nome Kennel Club with Scotty Allan, and was a part owner of his kennel. She was also responsible for publicizing the dog races and was the author of this and other books about mushing. This is a children's book detailing the exploits of Scott Allan's famous leading sled dog, Baldy. Scotty Allan's exploits during the early All Alaska Sweepstakes races provided the inspiration for the character of John Thornton in The Call of the Wild. about 8.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches wide 301 pages.
