About This Item
1928. Stiff Wraps. Very Good Plus. 4to. 30 by 24 cm. 18 leaves, with a prototype baptism announcement card mounted on every page, for a total of 36 such cards. The cards are of varying styles and print media, with an Art Deco aesthetic and pochoir process decidedly dominant, as befitting the time of issue. The cards are mounted on a light card stock, and printed on this card is inventory stock numbering and a name for the card, with such titles being things like "Serenite", "Charme", "Silhouettes", "Caresses" or "Au Temps Jadis". On the cards proper are printed dates and Christian names, as if the cards were actual announcements. The base cards over have each two bands of gilt decoration. Between each of the card sheets are tissue guards. The folio cover is of a very heavy card stock and is decorated with light gilt lettering in the title and also a band of wavy Art Deco ornamentation. Decorative brass florets hold together the stab binding. Alas, there is no information on the issue of this catalogue. A few of the cards have small signatures of the artists, whose names do not necessarily sound French, so one can infer that the same cards could be found perhaps in the U.K. and the U.S. However, a good number of cards are unmistakably Gallic in their flair and style. Other than evidence of light wear on the cover, clean and fine.
