Philadelphia: Baugh & Sons, 1874. Good. 2 advertising leaflets for Baugh & Sons, manufacturers of phosphate fertilizer. 1) [4] p.: double-eagle trademark; 15 cm. Printed in black on green paper, each page within a double-ruled border. Printed by Isaac Friedenwald, printer. This is a small catalog. 2) 1 leaf; 11 cm. Printed in black on one side. This advertises their office in Baltimore. In 1855 John Pugh Baugh (1797-1881) and sons Edwin P. and Daniel Baugh started selling at their tannery in Chester Co. phosphate made from raw bones for use as fertilizer. In 1859 they opened an office at 20 S. Delaware Ave, Philadelphia, as Baugh & Sons and in 1874 opened a branch in Baltimore. In 1887 the business was incorporated as The Baugh & Sons Co. By 1891 it had become the Delaware River Chemical Works, still a family-led company. Neither leaflet has a date of publication, but both include the Baltimore branch, indicating they were produced between 1874 and 1887. Scarce. In Good Condition: lightly creased; the first page and last page of the catalog are soiled.
