About This Item

Rossville, [OH]: J.M. Christy, Printer, 1843. Very Good. Rossville, [OH]: J.M. Christy, Printer, 1843. First Edition. Octavo. Removed. 23 pages.

Evidently separately published but likely also collected in a larger set of proceedings from the University, as the signatures present are D and E.

A wide ranging address, Junkin concludes by assessing the fluctuations of the graduating class, which had diminished and expanded in size over the years, "Some have abandoned literary pursuits altogether; some are perhaps dead. Such is human life! How unstable! How confused and apparently anomolous! Such as it is, you must meet it. Look forward, then, to the vast field before you."

Miami had reached its enrollment peak a few years previous, but was on the decline in Junkin's unhappy and unpopular tenure. He would resign the next year, though the school's bad fortunes would continue, leading up to the infamous "Snowball Rebellion" of 1848.

Heavily foxed and browned, and rubbed along edges. Overall a sound copy.
