OVER 30 COLOR TIPPED IN PLATES!!!! bound in light brown and highy decorated spine and front cover stamped in gilt, cherub illustrated endpapers, frontis with tissue guard (Henry Sydney by Lely), with 32 additional full color plates throughout, all with tissue guards, and highly suitable for framing. [A bit of a shame to turn this book into a "breaker" however.] All plates differ a bit in size, but most are in the 5 1/2" x 7 1/2 " range. Very light wear to extremities, t.e.g., spine lightly crimped and just a bit faded at the tail, bottom corners moderately bumped, with a small 1/2" area to the rear spine edge at center that has worn through to the back strip. Contents super clean and unmarked, very light foxing starting on the fore-edges, prior owner signature on the front flyleaf dated 4/28/30, else very good ++. MacFall (1860-1928) was of course the author of a magnificent 8 volume heavy quarto "History of Painting" done in 1911 by this same publisher. It contained 200 of the similar high-quality full-color reproductions as the 33 contained in this volume! The Masters works of the children featured here runs to a couple dozen, with the most (five), featuring the great Sir Joshua Reynolds. MacFall was a tolerable artist himself, as well as a journalist and art critic. The reproduction quality here in this book is very very stunning, and this is a gorgeous book in its own right. REALLY GOOD PRICE! 49-38 InvCode ZY39 ViewFair Books : 002991.
