About This Item

New York: Knopf. Fine in Fine+ dust jacket. 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. A very collectable set, includes signed first edition and the uncorrected proof. The return of Henry Bech, fictional character who is also Updike's alter ego. In seven new short stories in the life of the Jewish-American writer. Caught in several embarrassments as he travels several third-world countries, turns fifty, marries, falls in love and write a best-selling book. Book would have been fine except for some damage in the front and rear end-paper where piece of tape possibly got removed. A fine book, inscribed on the front free endpaper to Albert J Raman; "For Albert best wishes John Updike". In a very fine dust jacket now in archival protection. Uncorrected proof in yellow wrappers, showing some dirt staining on covers and spine, but otherwise fine, seemingly unread. Both books from the collection of Albert Raman, a noted bibliophile and Updike collector. Jacket illustrations by Arnold Roth. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 195 pages; Signed by Author .
