Red cloth boards, decorative gilt titles to front and spine. Bound by W Bone and Son. PP656 all edges gilt. Full colour frontis and title page, 31 full page black and white engravings as called for. Covers are bumped and marked, erased signature on front pastedown. All pages and illustrations are in excellent clean and bright condition. The binding is tight. The book includes stories, such as The Finger of Fate and of the Beggars. Nature's Hints to Inventors include contributions about Insects, Birds and Spiders. Miscellaneous items include The Syrian War, Indian Blowpipes and Time and Time Keepers. Poetry from around the world is included and "How to Make" instructions with supporting diagrams for Locomotives, Steam Boat and Beam Engine. There are many puzzle pages too. An interesting book, a snapshot of 1869.
