First Edition Thus. First edition from this publisher reprinted from John Bell's British Poets 1776-1782 poetry serial anthology True First Edition. In publisher's original polished calf, red and black morocco labels, with numerous decorations and titles in gilt and engraved frontispiece from John Bell's edition. A incomplete set total of 18 books of the original 61 books, 37 of the 124 volume set from Cadell and Davies. This unique Bagster edition contained a compact 2 volumes per book and a few books even have 3 volumes. Condition: Very Good ~ Near Fine. Most books appear unread, scuffs to covers, light foxing, chips to extremities, (label and chip dislodged and safely placed in a mini plastic zip lock bag from Mathew Prior #27 book, can be easily repaired at a professional book binder) pages are clean and binding tight. Includes the works (a few volumes are complete) of poets Geoffrey Chaucer, John Dryden, Edmund Spenser, Alexander Pope, Samuel Butler, Issac Watts, Sir John Denham, Mathew Prior, Soame Jenyns, Nicholas Rowe, Edward Young, George Granville and more. Frontispiece engravings from paintings by Thomas Stothard andSir Joshua Reynolds among others. Scarce set from John Bell's 18th Century historic poetry anthology series, collectible. 18mo.
