About This Item

New York: TV Guide , 1997. Presented here is the TV Guide Collector's Edition for April 26 - May 2, 1997, the Brooklyn-Queens Edition, with signed cover art by Berni Wrightson for Stephen King helmed series of The Shining. Front cover of this classic periodical is beautifully signed in black felt-tip by illustrator Berni Wrightson. Dynamic pictorial design, moderate shelf wear. Pages near fine; no writing. Bind fine; moderate wear to exterior spine. Near fine signed rarity. This issue promoted the ABC mini-series for The Shining which starred Steven Weber as the alcoholic writer, Jack Torrance. In this special issue, the master of modern horror unearths the lost prologue to The Shining and takes you on a bone-chilling behind-the-screams tour of this macbre series. The cover features the chilling SK influenced art by horror master Bernie Wrightson. Previously, Wrightson had drawn the poster for the Stephen King-penned horror film Creepshow, as well as illustrating the comic book adaptation of that film. This led to several other collaborations with King, including art for the novella "Cycle of the Werewolf," the restored edition of King's apocalyptic horror epic, "The Stand," and art for the hardcover editions of "From a Buick 8" and "Dark Tower V." This issue, besides the nostalgia inspiring tv schedules, also features several intriguing articles in light of revelations in the 2020's. From glowing white Danny in pj's at contents page: "I. 'The Shining' Reshot: Stephen King found the original film a few chills short. So for the miniseries, he went back to the spooky hotel that first inspired him. By Mark Schwed; II. Before the Play: The Overlook was haunted long before the Torrances got there. A reprint of the 'lost ' prologue to 'The Shining' by Stephen King"; III. Teach Your Children Well: A superstar-studded TV special on... 'toddler care'? When Rob Reiner asked, Tom Hanks and other Hollywood parents couldn't refuse! By Charles Fleming; IV. Stuck On 'Gump': As 'Forrest Gump' debuts on network TV, a novelist says there's more to it than just a box of chocolates. By Thomas Mallon; The Lady Is A Vamp: Sharon Lawrence put NYPD Blue on hold to get 'Fired Up' - a sitcom showcasing her surprising silly side. By Hilary De Vries." 280 pages. Insured post.. Signed by Illustrator. First Edition. Soft Cover. Fine. Illus. by Wrightson, Berni (Cover Illustration]. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
