Boston: Small, Maynard and Company, 1924 First edition, first printing. Publisher's navy cloth, lettered in gilt; in the original white dust jacket, lettered in blue. Book fine; dust jacket with some light toning to the spine, minor wear to the extremities, discreet tape reinforcement to the verso at the spine ends, short closed tear to the front panel, minor soiling to the panels. Overall, an excellent and very attractive copy. The Best Short Stories of 1923 is an anthology of popular fiction from 1923 that includes Ernest Hemingway's "My Old Man," Edna Ferber's "Home Girl," Theodore Dreiser's "Reina," and Sherwood Anderson's "The Man Story," among others. The Best Short series was a yearly publication with selections and edits by Edward J. O'Brien that ran 1915-1926. Notably, The Best Short Stories of 1923 includes a selection from Ernest Hemingway's first published work, Three Stories and Ten Poems, although his name is misspelled as "Hemenway" throughout the volume.. 1st Edition. A couple of pages have offset where it appears paper has been laid inside for decades, including receipt which now is laid inside the front of book.
