INSCRIBED BY HUGHES on the Title page in green pen: "Especially for Carl Anderson, / Sincerely, / Langston Hughes." No other markings. Pages are clean with occasional light corner creasing, no tears or chips; top edge slightly spotted. Bound in tan cloth hardcover, titled in black on spine. Light stain to front cover, light color fading along spine and edges; bottom front corner bumped, light wear to edges with bit of fray to bottom corners. Binding very good - hinges intact, no splits or cracks and book is straight. Lacks jacket. A scarce title in first edition - exceedingly uncommon signed. Published by Hill and Wang. 5-1/2 x 8-1/4"; x + 245 pages. Signed by Author. First Thus. Hard Cover. Good +/No Jacket. Illus. by Nast, Bernhard.
