1834 1ed Lowndes Bibliographer's Manual English Literature FAMOUS Bibliography

William Lowndes, a 19th-century English bibliographer, wrote what is considered one of the most important and best systematic bibliographies ever published. 'The Bibliographer's Manual of English Literature' was the first work of its kind and is utterly filled with descriptive and annotative sketches of authors and their works from the earliest printing through the 19th-century. Notably, this work is still referenced today by biographers, researchers, and booksellers.

Herodian's 'History of Rome' is a collection of eight books covering the period of the death of Marcus Aurelius to the beginning of Gordian III's reign. Herodian's account is first-person narrative of one of the most politically unsettled times of the Roman Empire. Important names covered in Herodian's 'History' include Commodus, Julianus, Severus, and Pertinax, as well as the history of Zosimus.

This 1549 Greek is incredibly rare and desirable. It features both the Latin and Greek translations by Poliziano. According to the USTC, there are only three examples in any institutional holding in American institutions! Very rare!

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
