This first full-dress bibliography of Cowper runs to more than five hundred items covering the publication of his writings in verse and prose, with a minute survey of bibliographical material and contemporary criticism, up to the appearance of the last volume of Southey's edition of the Works in 1837. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt stamping. The dust jacket is lightly faded along the spine, with a negligible ink mark to the front panel and just a hint of edgewear. Better than very good.

The volume was published as part of the Oxford Bibliographical Society Publications - this edition in particular being part of the New Series Volume XII. William Cowper was an English poet and hymnodist. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. In many ways, he was one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry. Samuel Taylor Coleridge called him "the best modern poet", whilst William Wordsworth particularly admired his poem Yardley-Oak.
