England: Brockhampton Press, 1968. Book. Very good-. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Price clipped jacket has a little corner and edge wear and some small marks and is now in a new protective sleeve. There are some small tape repairs to the blind side of the jacket; one at the base of the spine is visible externally. The jacket is eroded to the spine tips and has a 1cm sealed tear to the front panel. Book has a few foxing spots, some quite large to the top of the compressed page edges. Ink name stamp and small ink dealer stamp to the front free endpaper. Quite a few minor flaws, as described, still a nice representation of a scarce title. 1st edition, 1st printing, 1st state. There is a second state of the 1st edition that has red boards and is priced at 12/- on the front flap. The true 1st was priced at 10/6 There are two other board colours for the 1st edition but most were purple/burgundy..

Complete bound Volume 1 (Numbers 1-12) of Popular Flying, preserving the original covers. Edited by W.E Johns, with significant contributions including illustrations and writing by him. Includes the first appearance of Biggles in the story "The White Fokker" (as well as a further short story as 'William Earle'). A total of 10 of these 12 issues contain Biggles stories, the early stories under the pen-name "William Earle". Very Good condition internally (protected by the binding), with bumping to lower corners of pages, and early cracking to front hinge. Externally, there is significant scraping to the boards and chipping/discolouration to the spine label. It is most uncommon for bound volumes to preserve the glorious original covers of these magazines.William Earl Johns (5 February 1893 – 21 June 1968) was an English pilot and writer of adventure stories, usually written under the pen name Captain W. E. Johns. He is best remembered as the creator of the ace pilot and adventurer Biggles.

Small name in ink to corner of front free endpaper and an ink initial to the title page. A few minor flaws, as described, a nice representation of a scarce title. 1st edition, 1st printing, 1st state. There is a second state of the 1st edition that has red boards and is priced at 12/-(60p) on the front flap. The true 1st was priced at 10/6. There are two other board colours for the 1st edition but most were purple/burgundy this one being the more common burgundy. Jacket is in a new protective sleeve..
