Clear tape reinforcement bottom and middle of spine; light soil to covers mainly at extremities. ; Second and best issue with the 22-page supplement, "Opinions of the Press on Mad. Lle Rosa Bonheur's great Picture of the Horse Fair: , with separate title and imprint as above. First published in 1856, this issue, with the supplement and the imprint dated 1857 on the cover, may have had a title page date or the original issue of the biography, (1856). Perhaps removed in favor of the cover imprint. Scarce in any edition. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 41; 22 pages; Rosa Bonheur (1822-1899). Considered by some the greatest woman painter of the 19th century, Rosa Bonheur was also representative of the "New Woman" of the 19th century, assertive both in her professional and her personal life. Her painting of the Horse Fair, one of her two most celebrated works, is not at New York Metropolitan Museum. .
