About This Item
New York: New Directions, 1959. First edition. 8vo, 246 pp, bound in blue cloth. Illustrated dust jacket designed by Donn Devita. Association copy, inscribed by Rexroth at the first blank in the year of publication to Charles Richards: "Happy Birthday Dear Charles. Kenneth Oct '59."
A good association - Charles Richards and and his wife Janet were friends of Rexroth, and an important part of the California jazz scene. Janet chronicled some of this milieu in her underappreciated memoir Common Soldiers. This collection includes Rexroth's essay "Some Thoughts on Jazz as Music, as Revolt, as Mystique."
Near fine, with some light fading to extremities of cloth, a couple small stains, and a touch of dustiness to the edges of the text block, in a very good dust jacket lightly chipped and nicked at extremities with a couple small closed tears.
