Frontispiece is a photograph of the author "A bird song". Ex-library with back pocket and the attractive book plate inside the cover (back/front) for the "School of the Holy Child Library, Suffern, New York," as well as bookseller ticket inside back cover. Ends and corners worn, light foxing and some spots (ink?) on the front edge. "John Burroughs [1837-1921] was the most important writer after Thoreau of the nature essay, according to the Library of Congress American Memory Project. A pioneer of the American conservation movement, he is often referred to as the Grand Old Man of Nature." ; 8vo .
