Portland, OR.: The Oregonian.. 08-29- 1915.. Single sheet of The Sunday Oregonian newspaper, sheet 22 3/4 x 16 3/4 inches, very good condition. The full-page advertisement for D.W. Griffith's film describes it as "The most talked about production in all the world," and boasts "3 hours of Gripping, Appealing, Blood-tingling, Soul-Stirring Interest." The colossal scale of the production is highlighted with statistics: "5000 scenes, 18,000 people, 3,000 horses, $500,000 cost, 8 months in the making..." A photograph of Griffith appears in the upper left corner, while four stills from the play depict key moments in the narrative. Reserved seats are offered at between 25c, 50c and 75c for the matinees, or from 50c to $1.00 for the evening performances. Special attention is directed to the film being "Accompanied by Augmented Orchestra." The advertisement is an unusual and presumably quite scarce artifact for a film representing a milestone in the history of American cinema. .
