London.: George Edwards.. 1743- 1751.. Hand colored copperplate engraving, plate size approximately 9 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches on sheet 11 1/2 x 9 inches. A few light foxed spots. Signed in the plate. With fascimile of text sheet. Plate # 94 from George Edwards "A Natural History of Birds, Most of which have not been figured or described and others very little known..." published in London between 1743 and 1751. This plate, dated 1745 in the plate, features two penguins with details of their bill and that of another another species in the lower margin. Edwards, a friend of Sir Hans Sloane and Mark Catesby, is a pivotal figure in ornithological history. .
