The Blackwall Frigates

by Lubbock, Basil

Condition: See description

Glasgow: James Brown & Son, 1922 First edition. xv, [1], 332pp. 63 photographic illustrations, 9 plates (3 flag plates in color). Appendix, index. Original green cloth lettered in gilt on spine and front cover. A very fine copy. Excellent history of the Blackwall Yard where many of the East India Co. Ships were built. Much on the East India Company and the ships that sailed for it, and a review of numerous specific "Blackwallers." The appendix includes a listing of the Blackwall frigates, when built, weight, their owners, etc.; old station lists; abstract logs of the Hotspur (London to Calcutta, 1863), The Tweed (first passage to Melbourne, 1873), and the Holmsdale (Melbourne to London, 1883); and finally, the sail area and spar plan of the Clarence. An excellent source-book..
