The First UK printing published by Flamingo / Harper Collins, London in 1995. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just some very light pushing at the spine tips. Minor bumping to the lower corners and a tiny bump to the upper front edge. The usually encountered toning to the text-block and page edges due to the quality of the paper stock used. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Blue end papers as issued. The WRAPPER is complete and is in near Fine condition with just a hint of fading to the blue colouring to the spine and a little light toning to the flap edges. The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival cover. The book has been signed (without dedication) to the title page. The Booker Prize winning author's final novel. In 2008 'The Times' listed Penelope Fitzgerald among 'the 50 greatest British writers since 1945'. 'The Observer' in 2012 placed this novel, among 'the ten best historical novels'. It is a fictional treatment of the early life of Friedrich von Hardenberg who, under the pseudonym 'Novalis', later became a practitioner of German Romanticism. 'The Blue Flower' won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 1997. Extremely scarce to find with such attributes. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
