In Boksburg (The South African Photographic Gallery)

by Goldblatt, David

Condition: Very Good/No Jacket

Gallery Press, Cape Town, 1982. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Complete. A comfortable copy of this collection of extraordinary, effective, affecting photographs of the working class Afrikaans town of Boksburg, near Johannesburg. At the end is a reproduction of: "Declaration of Group Areas at Boksburg, District of Boksburg, Province of the Transvaal" from 20/1/1982 - a bewilderingly detailed legal separation of and allocation of areas for different races. The book has evidence of avid use throughout. The boards have some mild-mannered wear about the edges, corners. There is light scuffing. They are steady and sure. The contents have occasional wear and user creases. Otherwise, they are confident, certain, clean, clear, confident, assured, curiously addictive. fk
