A product of the English Reformation following its break with Rome, The Book of Common Prayer was a prayer book used by the Anglican Church during its Communion and Liturgical services, usually containing Morning and Evening prayers, the Litany, the Holy Communion as well as orders for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage and Burial. This book was essential to the churchgoers of the time, and those that could afford it did so; apparently, several vicars of the time were shamed into conformance with the Book of Common Prayer by their newly-empowered congregations. Truly, The Book of Common Prayer played an influential role in the religious and cultural development of England during the 16th and 17th century.
Original leather with age related weathering and wear, as shown with boards firm at the hinges; the spine with raised bands. Within, both the Book of Common Prayer and Psalter remain complete. Light browning to some edges, a few instances of stains (moreso on last leaf), some chipping and a few small losses, a few leaves in front and back tatty with loss and some restorations, some loss of letterpress, back end page is missing. Forgiving a few flaws, overall still presented nicely within, as shown.A unique touch.

Gilt lettered title on the spine. Three title pages in one book. Part I 673 pages; part II 284 pages; part III 846 pages. Frontispiece illustration. Leather is chipped head of the spine and worn on the joints and board edges. End papers resemble wallpaper designs. Staining to the front and rear end sheets. Tears to the front end sheets and tissue protecting the frontispiece with no loss of print. Light toning and scattered foxing. The first title page is dated 1848, the second dated 1849, and the third dated 1848.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
