BOTH VOLS : - re-backed - gilt titles on skivers. Blind stamped borders and decorations to front boards; 100 Tipped-in illustrations are complete. Undated so believed true first edition (1910. A note at the end of Vol II is dated 1911 and the USA edition is 1911). VOL I : 18 sheets (36 pages) WERE stained in the margins by mould, which is virtually removed but the treatment left some waviness. 2 pages have been lightly stained by bleeding from the illustration opposite. xv plus 427pp. VOL II : xii plus 420pp incl 2pp Classified Bibliography; 9pp Glossary and 24pp Index for both vols. No foxing seen, no signs of previous use, no ownership marks. This is a fascinating work with so much historic background on the mores of the times; not just for the antique dealer but anyone who wants to learn about the furniture available pre-1900s and how it developed, how made, timbers used, reasons for changes in styles and fashions etc. Enables the dedicated person to recognize truly valuable antiques from modern reproductions. Many pieces illustrated are no longer available in the market. Total weight is 3910 gms unpacked so please expect extra postage outside S Africa.

Soft-covers and hard-covers without Dj s are covered in adhesive plastic. While we have neither insects nor dampness in our shop, you might find that the total plastic cover keeps both at bay. Covering the whole book means that the common edge-wear described by so many dealers is mostly absent in our books. Any "plastic" is easily removable, it is not adhered to the book nor to the dust jacket. We do not use sellotape nor any other tape which discolours. We restore books where necessary and describe ONLY EXCEPTIONS to a perfect state. Faults in expensive books are described in huge detail. WHEN RESTORED the majority of "faults'' are visible only with great difficulty and certainly NOT in an image. To avoid misleading you we include few images. Please be guided by the very full descriptions. If no faults are described in a cheaper book, please be guided by the Condition. RESTORATION SERVICE. We restore any book younger than 1800 making your grotty, broken old books look like beautifully-cared-for precious old books. DUST JACKETS IN FACSIMILE. We provide colour copies of any DJ in our stock. Please ask for quotes, images & descriptions.
