About This Item
London: S.O. Beeton, 1861. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First Edition, rebound in modern 3/4 smooth calf binding. S.O. Beeton, 1861; meets all important points for First Edition in book form, including the rare color "farm-yard" frontispiece, as laid-out in Cagle, 1999 (entry 561). This copy has some errors in its collation: First, the title page is bound in before pg. 513 and not at the front; second, there is a four page publisher's catalog inserted between pages 624/625; third, it is missing at least one color plate, having only 42 of 48 color illustrations of prepared dishes across 11 of 12 plates (color frontis and title pages ARE present in this copy, as are all other leaves). Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; minor wear to corners, else boards in very good condition, marbling on front and rear remains bright; a few small stain spots and dog-eared pages, else interior text, black & white illustrations also very good; two blank pages at either end appear to have been part of re-binding; page block edges are marbled as well. No previous owner markings. From a private collection. Due to the size/weight of this book extra charges may apply for international shipping. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
