Publisher's illustrated green stiff wrappers, sympathetically rebacked with the original spine laid down. Housed in a green cloth chemise and full green crushed morocco slipcase First edition, first issue. This example with page 126 misnumbered 124, indicating the earliest issue. The back cover is an advertisement for the monthly parts issue of Vanity Fair. Snobs first appeared in Punch from 1846 to 1847 under the title "The Snobs of England. By one of Themselves. With illustrations." "When reprinted in book form, seven chapters were omitted. Thackeray, in a note, gave his reason for their omission, as follows: "On re-perusing these papers, I have found them so stupid, so personal, so snobbish, in a word, that I have withdrawn them from this collection" (Van Duzer 14).
