The cloth cover, although scruffily dignified has much wear, staining and marking from storage. The corners, edges and seams are much worn. The front decoration is persistent in its elegance. Former library copy (Natal Mounted Police). The contents are much marked and affected by damp, thoughtless storage, about the edges of the pages. There is foxing throughout. However, the contents are tight against the spine, assured, resolute, stoic, clear, entertaining and may be read with utter confidence and enjoyment. fk. London: H. S. Nichols & Co, 1894. Library edition. Hardcover. Good +. Small quarto, 12 volumes. A good or better set in the publisher's dark cloth, with boards elaborately stamped in gilt. Some inner hinges tender or partially cracked, attractive bookplates to the front paste-downs of each volume, and shallow but notable wear to the spine ends. A few volumes have some soiling to the cloth, and there are just a couple internal leaves detached, but present. Nevertheless a complete, intact set of this celebrated set of the Middle Eastern classic. Overseas shipping will naturally be expensive, unless ordered through e bay.

Corners slightly bumped and frayed. Gilt clear and bright. Variable sunning to spines, with some mildly cocked. Boards slightly bowed. Previous owner's stamp to ffep or front pastedown of various volumes. Bindings are sound. Page edges are somewhat brittle. A set of twelve quarto volumes (26 x 18 cms), each uniformly-bound in 3/4 wine-red leather over woven green cloth, with marbled endpapers and the top edges gilt. All volumes remain tightly-bound, with minor evidence of rubbing to the extremities. Each volume carries a rather nice bookplate of J. H. Burton, depicting a schooner in full sail bordered by mermaids. The bookplate is initialled "HN" (Harold Nelson, famed British bookplate designer, artist, and engraver). Internally, all volumes are in excellent condition and appear to have been seldom read or even opened. The words "Kamashastra Edition" appear at the bottom of the spine of each volume.
