There aren't many of the miniature people left, for the rush of modern life doesn't suit them. They like to live in quiet out-of-the-way country houses where things move an orderly, well-established pattern. In just such a house lives the Clock family, Pod, Homily, and their daughter Arrietty. They quietly and secretly make their living borrowing from the "human beans" until the day a human boy comes to live in the house. In her youthful curiosity Arrietty commits the worst Borrower mistake: she is "seen" by a "human bean" -- and disaster follows. Aid comes from a most surprising source, and the Clock family escapes to find a new life and further adventure. The 180 page book is illustrated by Beth and Joe Krush. The book has been the basis for a few movies starting with the 1973 TV movie starring Eddie Albert; then the 1992 six episode UK TV series; and most recently the 1997 movie starring John Goodman. The book measures 8" tall by 5¼" wide. Will combine shipping on more than one book. .

The Borrowers is a children's fantasy novel by Mary Norton about tiny people who "borrow" things from normal humans and keep their existence unknown. The central characters are the Clock family: father Pod, mother Homily and their spirited thirteen year-old daughter, Arrietty. Published in 1952, it won the Carnegie Medal for that year, and was selected in 2007 by judges of the CILIP Carnegie Medal for children's literature as one of the ten most important children's novels of the past 70 years.
