About This Item

New York: Random House, 1958. First Edition, First Printing. First Printing of both the book and the dust jacket. Book with 'First Printing' stated on the copyright page. Original dust jacket with $3.50 price printed on the front flap a the top, and 10/58 on the bottom. The dust jacket comes protected in a removable and archival mylar jacket protector. Both the book and dust jacket are in Very Good condition, and have been exceptionally well preserved. There is only some light generalized wear. The paper is fresh and clean, with no foxing. No previous owner's names. The dust jacket has some abrasion along the extremities and minor edge chips of only a few mm's in length, the largest being at the top of the spine, extending less then a quarter of an inch down. The dj is a little brittle, has some uneven sun fading, and the rear flap has a split along the inner flap fold that is near halfway down, not visible on the shelf, and is recommended that it be left in the archival protector (copies of our images of this book may be saved or printed), and it will last for many more years. This is an exceptional copy of this prized book. “If you want to capture a period in New York, no other book has done it so well… He [Capote] could capture period and place like few others” ... "the most perfect writer of my generation."(Norman Mailer). With three other stories: “House of Flowers,” “A Diamond Guitar” and “A Christmas Memory.” The main character, Holly Golightly, is one of Capote's best-known creations and an American cultural icon. Breakfast At Tiffany's is the basis of the 1961 Blake Edwards film starring Audrey Hepburn.

Synopsis

The Modern Library has played a significant role in American cultural life for the better part of a century. The series was founded in 1917 by the publishers Boni and Liveright and eight years later acquired by Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer. It provided the foundation for their next publishing venture, Random House. The Modern Library has been a staple of the American book trade, providing readers with affordable hardbound editions of important works of literature and thought. For the Modern Library's seventy-fifth anniversary, Random House redesigned the series, restoring as its emblem the running torch-bearer created by Lucian Bernhard in 1925 and refurbishing jackets, bindings, and type, as well as inaugurating a new program of selecting titles. The Modern Library continues to provide the world's best books, at the best prices.
