NY: Rinehart, 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First edition of author's second crime novel; his first, Watchful at Night, won an Edgar for Best First Mystery. Boards show slight wear at spine tips and corners and old tape marks from a protective wrapper on the dust jacket, which has been replaced. The dust jacket appears to have been trimmed along the bottom edge perhaps a quarter inch, but because it was protected, other wear is minimal and colors are clean and bright. Dramatic illustration of a face lit from below in neon green on black and purple ground. All of our first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted. Dustwrappers are protected with clear archival wraps and we pack each book like it's a Tiffany egg.
