DJ: Fair +; DJ is intact but with considerable archival tape repairs to tears and chipping; small pieces missing at head, tail, and tips; edge folds. Green cloth boards and spine with bright black lettering on spine. Tinted text block top. 267 pp 8vo. This is the story of explorer, scientist, taxidermist, inventor, naturalist, big game hunter and sculptor Carl Akeley. He writes of many stories of encounters with wild animals in Africa but was also the man who brought the life and habits of the gorilla into scientific perspective. He also conceived the great Roosevelt Memorial Hall in the Museum of Natural History. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket with a rare DJ.
