About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 1971. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Near fine first printing. Binding square. Pages clean and unmarked. Very slight looseness to hinges. Jacket has been price clipped. Minor wear to spine ends and edges. Minor crease and sticker residue to front flap. Fairfax's record of his epic row from the Canary Islands to Florida in 1969. The journey took six months and covered 4,500 miles, with Fairfax rowing from 12 to 20 hours per day in a 25-foot open boat. A fascinating record of an extraordinary journey. Laid in to the book is a letter from Toronto's legendary Albert Britnell Book Shop, dated 1987, fulfilling a customer's special order for this book as well as the credit card receipt for its purchase. Also laid in are previous owner's design plans for his own rowboat, a list of desirable characteristics for the boat, and a list of possible sponsors and sources of expertise. Quite wonderful.
