This work commences with military occurrences of the 1740s and concluding in the 1820s. Include battles such as Trafalgar, Saratoga, the conquest of Manilla, Frigate battles, the Pindaree War, the passage of the Douro, waterloo and the First Burmese War.James Grant (1822-1887) was a Scottish novelist and a distant relation of celebrated poet, Sir Walter Scott. He wrote around ninety books, including fifty-six novels, most of which focused on the military and history of Scotland, including many memoirs and histories as well as his fiction writing.A later impression of a popular work of military history which was reprinted numerous times.Illustrated with marvellous in-text illustrations throughout.Bound in pictorial cloth. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with the spine just a little faded. Gift inscription to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age-toned, but otherwise clean. Very Good Indeed
