Large Paper Edition, limited to 195 copies; this is no. 191, signed by the author on colophon and additional inscribed by him to "Mrs. James Grant Wilson / From her affectionate husband, the author." In addition, a one-page 1873 handwritten, signed letter from William Cullen Bryant to Prof. Vincenzo Botta (of the University of the City of New York, and husband of Anny Lynch Botta) is tipped in at front. Binding professionally reinforced retaining original cloth backstrip. Bound in gilt-lettered brown cloth, top edge gilt, 443 pp., frontis. portraits of both Bryant and Wilson, numerous plates, facsimiles. Spine cocked with just a bit of loss at crown and heel, spine and covers rubbed, small area of faint superficial insect marks along fore-edge of front cover, a couple of minor scuffs to rear cover, page edges tanned and a bit soiled, light soiling to endpapers, two small bookseller catalog entries tipped to front pastedown (the first describing an earlier Bryant letter, also to Botta, the other an offering of the present book); some pages have faint offsetting from plates opposite. Size: 4to. Inscribed and Signed by Author. 1st.. Hardcover. Collectible - Very Good/No Jacket.
