Smyth sewn, interior vaunts moire end papers, acid-neutral paper (won't yellow or become brittle over time) and silk ribbon page marker. Volume is housed in a decorated slipcase, with a few weak smudges to the cloth. Text is clean and unmarked. Uncommon in this special edition which reproduces the First Edition of 1895. From "The Times" review of 1895: "... This is a book which considerably extends the domain of human knowledge. Every page contains new materlals; many of his chapters are entirely new, and the whole forms an enduring memorial of laborious original research. He is the first European who, equipped with the resources of modern scholarship, has penetrated the esoteric Buddism of Tibet." Further, from another source, "A landmark in English-language writing on the subject of Tibetan Buddhism...contains a wealth of information written in a remarkably clear manner and accompanied by a plethora of rich visual documentation in the form of photographs and line drawings...this text provides a fascinating insight into the roots and practices of the religion and, given the destruction of a great deal of Tibetan religious sites, a lot of what has been recorded here will never be seen again -- making this rare text a must-have for anyone interested in the subject. "; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall.

About Evolving Lens Bookseller

We behind the scenes and running Evolving Lens Bookseller have been involved and otherwise employed in the used, rare and collectible book market for a decade, in both brick-and-mortar settings and online. Long before that, we were all readers, collectors and book enthusiasts. We know books, feel privileged to be a part of the collectible book market, and are passionate about the value of the content of the books themselves. Our inventory focuses on the fine & domestic arts, artist monographs and uncommon catalogs, university press publications, biographies, philosophy, theoretical psychology, sets, peculiar and uncommon fiction, signed books and modern first editions; however, we will always provide a range of quality content to choose from. Thank you for taking a look at our shop. Buy with confidence.
