Advertisement on rear of title states that "The following Pages () form part of a larger Work, now in the course of publication, expressly adapted to the use of operatives and Manufacturers entitled "The Mechanic's Gallery of Science and Art; to which circumstance it is owing that these pages begin with folio 289. The general utility of the subject matter has induced the Proprietors to print an extra number of Copies of this portion of the Work...." . Includes inset illustrations and diagrams and five engraved plates as listed in the contents: Frontis with two engravings of Moveable Scaffold for Bricklayers etc. and of Moveable Scaffold for repairing the interior of a Dome; Architecture - Untitled plate between pages 300 and 301 showing details and cross-sections of of columns, tracery, vaulting etc; Plate IX between pages 406 and 407 showing Murdock's method of Boring Stone and details of Masonry in Pise, engraved by G Gladwin; Plate X between pages 472 and 473 showing 7 figures of temporary works for constructing an arch including a detail showing suspended support apparently with cables or similar for construction of an arch over the sea (this plate is heavily foxed); Plate XI between pages 574 and 575 showing 6 figures described on the contents list as Colour Mill and Glaziers' Machine engraved by G Gladwin. Includes publisher's catalogues bound at rear with dates of November 1821, and January 1st 1822. Plain brown boards re-backed with new cream spine with black and white spine-label, sound binding.
