About This Item

(Cape Town, Howard Timmins, 1961). Small quarto; original boards somewhat bowed; pictorial dustwrapper rather rubbed; moderate foxing and browning to endpapers and prelims.; pp. 59; line drawings. Fair to good condition. "Townley Johnson is famous for his art as well as being a well-known radio personality, whilst Mary Phillips' voice is known to thousands over the air. These two talented people have produced a book which creates South African legends which it is hoped will prove as enduring and as endearing as the fables found in English and Continental literature. They have based their material on the Bushman paintings which have provided them with authentic data on the appearance, customs and way of life of the past indigenous peoples of this land, but with a clear overall picture of the passing scene over the centuries, through the eyes of the Bushman." .
